THE OBSESSION OF CREATING A PERFECT LIFE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

socialobsessedWhy do some friends insist on oversharing?

Are you someone who posts a status or photo on Facebook, then checks the site every minute to see how many likes and comments you have?

Are you actively engaged on the social media site – frequently posting on walls, commenting, updating status or ‘liking’ something?

Some may think, what’s the point of being happy if you’re not going to post it?

If you’re going somewhere interesting, to post a photo online as an evidence of your awesome experience is a must. Not to mention, a grand announcement on Facebook! A lot of selfies or it didn’t happen at all. You strive to be accepted by others and with every “like”, it’s like getting a pat on the back. You like to be “liked”. Seems like it gives you confidence and makes you feel accepted by your 502 Instagram followers or 2,703 Facebook friends.

By that practice, do you ever notice that you’re probably insecure?

Social media is a security blanket to boast about your fabulous lives when on the inside you are slowly deteriorating and looking for outside validation to feed your ego. You mask your insecurities by portraying perfect lives to the world.

Everyone wants to prove to others they are better than the next person. Everyone want to prove that they are just as rich, fabulous and fierce as their “friends.”

You require attention from others to feel better.

You are concerned about rejection and thrive on comments and likes.

Have some thought for a moment, happy couples who post slushy stuff on Facebook all the time probably hate each other. Yes?

Logic aside, it seems that the success of relationship is measured by how many pictures you post with your significant other, and those who never post pictures are assumed to be in miserable relationships. Is that so? Ooopss….  wait, their joy is in being together, not in posting about being together. They post less because their relationship validates them, so they don’t need to seek that feeling externally. Got it?

To conclude, are you an extroverts or narcissists?

A piece of advice, just go live your life, focus on your present reality, and ignore the circus of social media. Trust me, you’ll be a lot happier.
